News | 2013 | New Capilano Workshops

The Fall 2013 Capilano University Continuing Education Course Calendar is now out, and it says I'll be offering two new workshops this semester--How to Submit a Manuscript and a Scene Writing Workshop--in addition to my usual offerings of Beyond the First Draft: Revising Your Work and Story Structure. Both of these new workshops are one-day sessions, and if you're interested in this sort of thing, I'd love to see you. Please visit the nice people at Capilano University to register. Here are the details:

How to Submit a Manuscript

How to Submit a Manuscript

If you're looking to share your writing through traditional publication (print or electronic), you have to know how to present your work to an editor or agent. Through in-class exercises and discussion, you explore the best way to format and submit your stories and poems, look at finding the right market, share tips on organizing your submissions, discuss self-publishing options, and illuminate the editorial process--everything you'll need to know to be treated as a professional.

Scene Writing Workshop

Scene Writing Workshop

Designed for story writers of any genre, this interactive workshop focuses on building coherent, well-paced and suspenseful scenes within the overall framework of story. Turning points, setups, payoffs, emotional transitions, the nature of choice, and subtext are explored. You'll write, share, and analyze scenes, giving you a clear understanding of what it takes to craft effective scenes that not only support your story, but also surprise and delight your readers.
