News | 2012 | 2012 Reading List

Only sixty published books in 2012. Even though that works out to be more than a book a week, I feel like I didn't read that much. On an completely unrelated note, I did discover that coding new Neverwinter Nights material and playing Skyrim can be quite addictive. Oh well, there's always hope for next year--hopefully I'll be able to do more reading and writing with less gaming, but I'm making no promises.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
Choke by Chuck Palahniuk
Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson

My favourite books this year included Chuck Palahniuk's Choke, Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games, and Bill Watterson's Calvin and Hobbes. While Palahniuk sometimes uses too much artifice for my taste (like his tendency to overuse repetitive lines), I'm happy to realize he's become one of my favourite authors. I picked up Collins because everyone else in my house had read her, and I quite enjoyed her story. I remember thinking it was possibly a little derivative of The Running Man, but it's most definitely a page-turner that stuck with me (which in my opinion is a very good thing). And finally, I'm not sure if rereading Calvin and Hobbes counts, but hey, I still love it as much as I did when it was first published in the newspapers.
