SFU's The Writer's Studio is putting on a special weekend for students and alumni called TWS Exchange '07 in November at SFU Harbour Centre. Aside from attending mentor readings, focused workshops, and general socializing, I'll also be working: I'm both hosting the student readings as well as teaching a workshop on writers' websites.

I've had several people come up to me already and tell me how much they're looking forward to my workshop. I'm very flattered. Hopefully, they'll find what I have to say helpful and inspiring. Seeing as I've worked internationally as a web designer and a web developer (there's a difference) for over ten years (in Canada, the United States, and New Zealand), I have some rather strong opinions on what makes a good website and what really isn't worth your effort.

If you're coming to the conference and are thinking about your own website, I'll reprint the blurb from the calendar here for you. I'll be speaking from 9:15 to 10:30 on the Saturday morning of the conference and I'd love to see you there.

Websites for Writers
Why you need a web presence and how to build one. Learn how to market yourself in today's wired world and win an audience when the new rules say if you don't have a website, you don't exist. I'll show you the websites to emulate, the mistakes to avoid, as well as provide a quick demonstration on how to build a website today.
